Why this situation is tricky
Spin changes the cue ball's path after impact, on top of its effect on the object ball. Without control of the strike point on the cue ball, positioning after the shot becomes unpredictable.
The method
First identify the result you want after impact (cue ball drawing back, deflecting, or following through) before choosing the strike point. Keep power constant and change only the strike point, so you isolate the effect of spin from the effect of power in your learning.
The principle of spin is the same in blackball and snooker, but the smaller balls in snooker respond faster to strong spin: a slightly off-centre strike point produces a more visible result than in blackball.
What repetition changes
Spin is one of the shots where repetition changes your level the fastest: by repeating the same strike point on the same setup, you quickly link a precise point to a precise result on the cue ball.

Start repeating
Sniper resets the ball in about 2.5 s, so you run this drill far more times than in a regular game.
